Objectives

  • To encourage secondary students to participate in science-related events and activities to broaden their horizons and get inspired
  • To provide opportunities for senior secondary students to interact directly with scientists in early or mid-career to learn about the path in scientific research

Point-Award Mechanism

  • Participants can earn points by joining different events to be organised / co-organised by the HKLF
  • Different events grant various number of points
  • In-person participation in events, where applicable, will earn more points
  • A certificate will be issued by the HKLF to participants who garnered a certain number of points
  • Points can be earned in the period between June 2023 and March 2024

Participants Collected 80 points or more

  • Will receive a GOLD Award Certificate issued by the HKLF

Participants Collected 50 points or more

  • Will receive a SILVER Award Certificate issued by the HKLF

Shaw Laureate Public Lecture: The Active Social Lives of Black Holes (24 June 2023)

  • In honour of Prof Roger Blandford, who received the 2020 Shaw Prize in Astronomy
  • Provide opportunity for secondary students to meet a Shaw Laureate in person
  • Public lecture – Presentation of major breakthroughs and key remaining questions concerning our fundamental understanding of astrophysical black holes
  • 15 points (Extra 5 points for in-person participation)

HKLF Booth @ InnoCarnival 2023 (28 October - 5 November 2023)

  • InnoCarnival 2023 is an annual event organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission to promote innovation and technology culture in the community. The HKLF will be one of the participating organisations among almost 40 exhibition and game booths
  • Interactive games / VR experiences / short videos, etc., will be set up and showcased at the HKLF booth for public to join
  • Visit the booth and take part in one of our activities to gain 20 points
  • After each event under the Award Scheme is completed, teachers will need to complete a participation record and email to Mr Kelvin Chau at kelvinchau@hklaureateforum.org for points registration. Participation record can be downloaded from the link https://bit.ly/3QexU4h.

Hong Kong Laureate Forum (13-18 November 2023)

  • The Hong Kong Laureate Forum aspires to be a world-class academic exchange event to connect the current and next generations of leaders in scientific pursuit, as well as to promote understanding and interests of the young generation in Hong Kong and around the world in various disciplines in science and technology.
  • During the Forum, students are welcomed to participate in some of the programmes, both in-person and online and shares views with Shaw Laureates and distinguished scientists.
  • These programmes include Plenary Sessions, Trending Topic and Science Seminars
  • Different events grant various number of points (each Award Scheme participant can earn a maximum of 50 points for Hong Kong Laureate Forum)
