Scheduled for 16-18 November 2021, "Masterminds, Masterclasses" is the second chapter of the prelude to the inaugural Hong Kong Laureate Forum (the Forum). It comprises (1) Hybrid Seminar with world-renowned scientists as speakers, including Shaw Laureates, recipients of Breakthrough Prize, CNRS Gold Medal, Fields Medal and Royal Medal, for extensive international audiences in three disciplines of science, namely Life Science and Medicine, Astronomy and Mathematical Sciences, as well as (2) Dialogue with Young Scientists, in which a small number of selected participants would have invaluable opportunity to converse directly with world-renowned scientists.
(1) Seminar
Each seminar includes presentations by world-renowned scientists, followed by a panel discussion. The presentations will cover not only research topics and their applications, but also the presenters’ research journeys and the experience that they gained during the process. As such, the presentations would definitely be thought-provoking and inspirational. They would appeal to a vast and diverse audience, in particular fellow scientists, young scientists and the younger generation who are interested in science.
While local scientists will be joining the seminars in-person, a couple of non-local speakers will be present at the event venue through holographic projection, which would definitely add to the thrill for the in-person participants.

(2) Dialogue with Young Scientists (By invitation only)
It offers an exclusive invaluable opportunity for young scientists for boundless inspirational and intellectual exchange with world-renowned scientists in a small group setting. The sharing of research journey and personal experience by the world-renowned scientists would act as a catalyst to participants to sustain them on their research journey ahead, and that would also benefit their planning in the pursuit of science.
To cater for both local and non-local participants, two sessions (one in-person and one online) will be organised on the same day for the specific discipline.
